Dusty Rowland is Wearing Pink for Breast Cancer
A friend of The FEED family, Dusty Rowland, has accepted the nomination and is wearing pink for Chattanooga’s Real Men Wear Pink campaign. Real Men Wear Pink gives men a leadership role in the fight against breast cancer. Men around the nation use the power of pink to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer initiatives, including innovative research, patient services, and education around screenings and risk reduction.
We sat down with Dusty to learn more about the campaign, his fundraising efforts and ways we could join the fight against breast cancer.
Why did you choose to support the Real Men Wear Pink 2019 Campaign?
Although breast cancer has never affected the lives of anyone in my family, nor any of my dearest friends, it is something that concerns me. As a husband and father of three girls, I am excited to do my part in helping to fight a disease that has the potential to one day affect them.
Where does the money raised go?
Every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society save lives from breast cancer through early detection and prevention, innovative breast cancer research and patient support.
Why do you wear pink?
Breast cancer affects everyone – it doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman. That’s why I’m stepping up to fight breast cancer with all I have. I’m able to make a difference within my community, I believe I have an obligation to do so. By raising money and awareness through Real Men Wear Pink, I’m helping to save more lives from breast cancer.
Every day, the American Cancer Society is saving more lives from breast cancer than ever before. They’re helping people take steps to reduce their risk of breast cancer or find it early, when it’s easier to treat. They provide free information and services when and where people need it. They fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and they’re working to ensure access to mammograms for women who need them.
What is your fundraising goal?
My personal goal for this campaign is $7,500. We each pledged to raise $3,000, but I certainly want to shoot higher for all of the women that have fought, are fighting, and will fight breast cancer.
How can we join in the fight against breast cancer?
People can join the fight by donating to the Real Men Wear Pink campaign by visiting http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/?fr_id=94104&pg=personal&px=51331433 or https://www.facebook.com/donate/404680303500836/. I am also working to organize additional fundraising opportunities.
